Letters to Father Christmas, Christmas tree lighting at the Forum
The Carlsbad Forum is hosting its 20th annual tree lighting from 6-9 p.m. on December 2. The evening will include a live performance by Crown City Bombers, holiday characters and performers, Santa Claus and a light show and snowfall. Families will also have the opportunity to visit and take pictures with Santa Claus. In addition, children can drop off wish lists and letters to Santa Claus in a special mailbox outside Geppetto. The Shoppes announce holiday hours
Brookfield Properties, the owner of commercial real estate for The Shoppes in Carlsbad and other malls in San Diego, will close its malls on Thanksgiving Day. The centers will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday for “Black Friday” to kick off the 2022 holiday shopping season. Brookfield also owns Downtown Otay Ranch and Downtown Chula Vista. All of its San Diego-area malls will extend hours from Dec. 10 to Christmas Eve. Black Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting December 9, hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday starting December 11. Stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day and open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

‘Pawliday Market’ helps rescue dogs
Second Chance Beer Co., the “Seize a Pint, Save a Pup” brewery, is hosting its first Pawliday Market from noon to 4 p.m. on December 4. Hazy IPA), dog adoptions from Second Chance Dog Rescue, holiday card photo shoots with Erin Wiese Photo and Puppy Picnic Co., and pop-up shopping with more than a dozen dog-themed vendors. Upcoming Annual Craft Fair
Fallbrook holds its annual craft fair, showcasing the crafts of local artisans, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the downtown core on Main Avenue between Hawthorne and Alvarado streets. The free fair also features art and live music. The city’s Farmers’ Market will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. nearby, on Main Avenue between Alvarado and Fig streets. Job readiness program expands to five cities
The Carlsbad Job Readiness Room program recently expanded to four North County cities and is now called the North County Job Readiness Room. The Readiness Room is free for job seekers and businesses. It is intended to help North County residents gain job skills and secure a guaranteed interview with a business in Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos, or Vista. Entry-level workers can complete 15 hours of online job training at their own pace. Upon completion of the program, clients will receive a micro-loan, as well as assistance in securing a job interview with a local business in hospitality and tourism, manufacturing, or general administration Office. This program is designed to help people who have left the labor market and are facing barriers to employment. The North County Job Readiness Room is a partnership between the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos, and Vista, local chambers of commerce, and the San Diego North Economic Development Council.
